Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral therapy is a gentle, yet profound light-touch therapy that seeks to release restrictions found in the craniosacral system – the membranes and fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. This system extends from the bones of the head and face (the cranium) down to the sacrum, or tailbone area. The practitioner uses a light touch to ‘listen’ for restrictions within this system and encourage a release which provides the body the space and freedom to self-correct; releasing the effects of stress naturally. Because of the influence on the central nervous system, craniosacral therapy can be a very effective treatment for headaches, migraines, neck and back problems, stress, fatigue, insomnia, depression, digestive difficulties, TMJ dysfunction, vertigo, and sinus problems. With very gentle touch the body’s defense mechanism can relax, allowing for deeper tensions to bubble to the surface and be released.

What to expect: Relax comfortably supported on a heated massage table. The treatment is performed over soft, loose-fitting clothes. I use very gentle touch (about the weight of a nickel) along with gentle manipulations to contact restrictions and help your body release them. This release revitalizes the flow of cerebrospinal fluid and in so doing can initiate a profound healing response.

Craniosacral Therapy for Infants

During the birth process we undergo considerable forces of compression as we make the journey through our mother’s pelvis. This compressive force as well as other details of pregnancy and birth, can create restrictions which interfere with proper body functioning. Craniosacral therapy can be an effective treatment for issues such as colic, reflux, breastfeeding difficulties, irritability, hypersensitivity, torticollis, and for babies who have experienced invasive medical procedures.

What to expect: I use gentle touch to determine where the body is restricted and use gentle techniques to release restrictions and restore balance. The entire session lasts an hour, although actual hands-on treatment time for baby is usually about 15 – 20 minutes. The extra time allows for a gentle pace to take a health history, share details and concerns of pregnancy and birth, give mom/dad and baby plenty of time to interact, feed and diaper… to ensure the most positive healing experience.
